Richard "Dick" Anderson Diggons III's Obituary
Richard “Dick” Anderson Diggons, III, 88, of Memphis, TN, passed away on March 18, 2022.
Dick was born on August 3, 1933, in Memphis, TN to Richard A. Diggons, Jr. and Jean Alston Diggons.
He is survived by his wife, Pamela Diggons, children, Deborah Samelson, Kim Harwood Rase, Kathy Harwood (Allan) Everett, Courtney Harwood (Steve) Griffin, Kent Harwood, 4 grandchildren and 10-great- grandchildren, brother, Rodney (Susan) Diggons Sr, and nephew Rodney Diggons, Jr.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Richard A. Diggons, Jr. and Jean Alston Diggons, daughter, Daphne Diggons Baker and son, Richard “Dickie” A. Diggons, IV.
Dick proudly served in the United States Marine Corp in Paris Island as a drill instructor during the Korean War. He was the founder of Dick Diggons Body Works, Inc. located on Democrat Road in Memphis, Tn. Mr. Diggons served as a board member for the Serenity House Recovery Center from 1997 until 2017. He was awarded the district honor of Trustee Emeritus for his exemplary service and was also made an ambassador for the organization. He helped thousands of people access services for substance disorders and helped Serenity become the strong service community they continue to be today. Dick was also a member of The Traditions Group where he made lifelong friends with his fellow members. He was a proud supporter of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department and a special deputy.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, March 27 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. with a funeral service on Monday, March 28 at 1:00 p.m. all in the Riverside Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home located at 5668 Poplar Avenue. Interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. The reception will follow in the Parkside Event Center at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
