Richard Lee Carter's Obituary
Richard L. Carter 72 passed away March 5, 2015. He was born July 30, 1942, a proud Leo, in Memphis Tennessee to Virginia Bowles Carter and Everett E. Carter. After graduating from Oakhaven High School he joined the Navy and traveled the world, never losing the desire to travel to new places or revisit some countries like Greece many times. He spent a year in Africa and traveled to Antarctica on an ice breaker. After serving 4 years in the Navy he worked at Delta Airlines making many lifelong friends that he treasured. Richard was full of love. He loved people, animals and plants, but mostly family and friends. He loved to eat and could go on and on about a delicious ice cream he discovered, or a cheesecake he had made. Richard was an excellent baker and each evening’s meal was followed by a dessert that he had made. Richard was a very talented gardener and spent many afternoons planting hundreds of flowers. If you ever had the opportunity to visit Richard and Paul’s back yard you would be amazed at the beautiful gardens he had planted. He loved his hands in the dirt and the sun on his face. He had a great love for all his Miniature Schnauzer babies and Westie, McCloud. But his biggest love was his partner of 43 years Paul Gunter. He leaves behind to treasure his memory, life partner Paul Gunter, sisters Betty Carter of Houston TX and Linda Griste and husband David of Sardis, MS, 3 nephews and many great nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the American Cancer Society in Richard’s memory.Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119,”Behind the Stone Wall.”
