Richard Herman Brien's Obituary
Richard Herman Brien was born in Houston, Texas, on August 20, 1939, the youngest of five children born to Herman Haswell Brien and Lucile Johann Brien, which included John, Bill, Bob, and Tom Brien. His parents and brothers predeceased Richard. He is survived by his wife, Diane Bertani Brien, stepsons Todd and Keith Bertani, step-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Richard graduated from Kincaid School in Houston, Texas, attended Ripon College for two years, then pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration degree, magna cum laude, at the University of Denver. He earned his PhD in Latin American business and economic studies from the University of Texas, Austin. Richard served at associate dean and associate professor of marketing at the College of Business Administration, University of Houston for a few years before leaving academia for the business world, with tenures in California, Mexico City, and New England. After retiring in California, he served as adjunct professor in marketing at DeAnza Community College. He spent his last years near his niece, Kimberly Brien, in Memphis, TN.
