Rebecca B. Sowell's Obituary
Rebecca B. Sowell, 81, on Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2022.
Rebecca (better known as Becky) was born on August 14, 1941, in Memphis, Tennessee to William Arthur Banister and Iris Hudgins.
Becky is survived by her children: Connie Streiber, Robin Jensen, Cecil Sowell, Jr. (Sabrena), grandchildren: Zach McCrary (Jessica), Josh McCrary (Moriah), Rachel Carter, Amanda Ocampo (Jason), Scottie Jensen, and Sunshine Post (Trey), great grandchildren: Taylor McCrary, Sebastian McCrary, Josiah McCrary, Maylie McCrary, Manna McCrary, Madynn McCrary, Benjamin Post, Marshall Post, Annabelle Post, Hudson Ray, and River Ocampo.
Becky was preceded in death by her husband: Cecil Sowell, Sr., parents: William Arthur Banister, Iris Hudgins, sisters: Carol Banister and Ruth Banister, and grandson: Seth McCrary.
Becky attended Peabody Elementary, Fairview High, and Messick High School of Memphis, class of 1959.
Becky knew early on she wanted to marry Cecil, even before graduating from High School! Cecil and Becky married August 31, 1957, with permission of Becky's mother of course!
Becky enjoyed life as a homemaker (wife, mother, and grandmother), working in the yard, sewing, making crafts, playing tennis and golf, riding motorcycles with Cecil and going to the lake. However, her favorite pastime was shopping, going out to eat, and spending time with her family and friends.
Becky was an active member of Forest Hill Church of Christ and a strong supporter of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She spent countless hours over many years teaching children about Jesus in Bible classes and at VBS (Vacation Bible School).
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, August 29, 2022 from 12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Hill Church of Christ, 3950 Forest Hill Irene Road Memphis.
Graveside will be at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, Tennessee 38119
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to The Memphis School of Preaching (MSOP)
