Rebecca Jane Fraser's Obituary
Rebecca Jane Fraser, née Clouting, passed away gently and peacefully at home on January 22, 2025 after a long illness, with her family by her side.
Becca was born February 14, 1961 in Norwich, United Kingdom, the third daughter of Colin and Patricia (Burgoyne) Clouting. She was born into a musical family, her parents and her sisters all pursuing careers in music. Becca was a talented violinist and soprano but she chose nursing as her vocation. She graduated from the Nightingale School of Nursing at St Thomas’ Hospital, London and went on to focus on operating room nursing. She married Blair Fraser on April 23, 1988 in Oxford, UK, where her career flourished at the Radcliffe Infirmary, specializing in neurosurgical operating room nursing.
In 2001 she moved with her husband and young family to Germantown TN, where she immersed herself in the community, enjoying tennis and singing with the Memphis Symphony Chorus, the Opera Memphis Chorus, and the Wolf River Singers.
Despite daunting medical challenges, which she faced with her characteristically indomitable spirit, she beat the odds by surviving to live a rich life for over three decades after her initial diagnosis. The Fraser family recognizes the huge part that the Semmes Murphey Clinic played in helping her prevail.
Becca will be remembered by family and friends for her empathy and magnetic personality, her often irreverent and outrageous sense of humor and fun, and her ability to light up a room with her presence. She is missed by her husband Blair, her daughter Phoebe and her wife Hannah, her son Alexander and his wife Allyn and their son, Becca’s grandson, Simon, her sisters Fiona and Alison, and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
A service of thanks for Becca’s extraordinary life will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Memphis, TN, led by Mr. Greg Chapman, on February 1, 2025, at 11:00am, and a celebration of her life afterwards at the Fraser home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Becca’s honor to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at www.lbda.org.
