Raymond Lloyd Ross JR.'s Obituary
It is with great sadness that the family of Lloyd Ross inform you of his passing on October 15, 2021. His death was very unexpected and came just two weeks after he had moved back to the Memphis area from many years in the Houston/Tomball area of Texas. Lloyd had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease several years ago but was fighting it with all his might and was looking forward to being back in the Memphis area with family and old friends.
Lloyd was born in Memphis, TN on July 6, 1951, to Raymond and Vivian Ross. He attended Sea Isle Elementary, Colonial Junior High, and graduated from Overton High School in 1969 where he ran on the Track Team. It was on the track team that he met Jim Church, who would remain his best friend for life. From there he went to Memphis State University, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Business of Administration, Accountancy and then went on to earn his Master of Business Administration, Finance and Capital Markets, in 1978. He was a member of Beta Gamma Sigma and the International Honor Society and a licensed CPA.
On Oct 29, 1978, Lloyd married Lilly Joe of Clarksdale, MS. They met at one of Lloyd’s earliest “real” jobs working at First Tennessee Bank. Lloyd was the quintessential businessman and polite gentleman while Lilly was the free-wheeling free spirit. They complemented each other well! Over the years they lived in Charlotte, NC, Austin, TX and then for many years in the Houston and Tomball Texas area. In 1985 a great blessing came to them with the birth of their daughter, Katie. She became the center of their attention, and they were always ready with the latest stories and photos of her. Things got even better when Katie married Beau and made Lloyd and Lilly grandparents with the births of Jackson and then Brooke. Every time you spoke with Lloyd, he had the latest story or escapades of his two grandchildren and fortunately was able to spend extended periods of time with them the last several years. Regretfully, Lilly passed away in 2019 from a long-term illness. Lloyd spent much time taking care of her at their home and seeing to her needs and health in order to make her comfortable.
Lloyd didn’t have a lot of hobbies. He was a runner and ran in the Houston Marathon and occasionally enjoyed a social round of golf. For many years he practiced karate and liked to travel. He loved his business pursuits and was always ready to talk “business”. Upon his passing he was currently Director/CFO of Bitcoin Oil, CFO of Rhone Merchant House and Managing Director of HealthCare Markets Group, a boutique healthcare investment banking and consulting firm in Houston, TX, which he co-founded in 1989. He was previously employed as Director at HNR Acquisition Group, Assistant Treasurer of Healthcare International, and KPMG, one of the big four accounting firms. He enjoyed all the details of putting together a business deal and making it successful. Lloyd was always a team player and as such he was instrumental in the development and structuring of over $1 billion dollars in transactions for both private and public companies. His knowledge, creativity, and devotion made significant contributions in transactions ranging from hospital/physician joint ventures to financing healthcare start-ups that went on to become public companies. Lloyd was also very active in his church, Graceview Baptist, in Tomball, TX and served in many capacities there. He was a grounded believer in Jesus Christ and relied upon his faith in God. He was also active in his neighborhood of Holly Lakes in Tomball. Lloyd had a sly, dry wit and humor about him but above all else was a very kind and generous man.
Lloyd was predeceased by his wife, Lilly Joe Ross, his parents, Raymond Ross Sr., and Vivian (Peggy) Ross, and his in-laws, Joe Gow Haw and Szeto Hoi Ping. He is survived by his daughter and son in law, Katie and Beau Bilek of Alexandria VA, two grandchildren, Jackson and Brooke, his sister Cindy Littlefield (David) of Germantown TN, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Tammy and Bobby Joe of Houston, TX, sister-in-law Jean Maskas (Steve) of Memphis, TN, best friend Jim Church (Pam) of Germantown, TN, and many uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and many, many friends. There will be a memorial service for Lloyd on November 6, 2021, at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar Ave. in Memphis, TN. The visitation will be from 1:30pm-2:30pm with a service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any honorariums or memorials be sent to Graceview Baptist Church, Tomball TX, www.graceview.org; The Parkinson’s Foundation, www.parkinson.org; or the Michal J. Fox Foundation, www.michaeljfox.org.
