Ralph "Jack" Zehring's Obituary
Ralph “Jack” Zehring was many things: beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. On December 28, 2019 his earthly life was perfected and fulfilled as he graduated to glory surrounded by family at his home.
Born in 1936 in Alexandria, Virginia, Jack was the only son of Pauline and Ralph Zehring, and the brother of Barbara “Bobbie” and Delores “Deedie”.
Jack met the love of his life, Sandra Carole, as a young man before attending East Carolina University, where he set records as the starting Pirates quarterback.
Jack and Sandy were married on September 3, 1960 and spent 59 wonderful years setting an example for all of us as teammates, friends, road trip co-pilots, and sweethearts. Together they raised two sons, J Kyle and David Roland, whom he inspired to be the wonderful men they are today.
Jack spent his days loving his family with a servant’s heart always on display. A true American “man’s man,” Jack loved tending his yard as a master gardener, passing on his knowledge as a repairman and grill master, while keeping the family grounded with his quiet strength. Known throughout the community as an usher at Central Church, he will be remembered and missed not only by his family but also by many friends and community members as well. Jack will forever motivate each of us not to seek attention or public accolades, but to serve the Lord, work hard, and seek to lift up those around you.
In addition to his wife and sons, Jack leaves behind two daughters-in-law, Charlotte and Linda, and two of his grandchildren, Hannah (Alex) Cannon and Spencer (Paige) Zehring, as well as his first great-grandchild, Carter Mae Cannon, whom he’ll be watching over starting in February. He was met at heaven’s gates with joy and laughter by his granddaughter Kelsey and his yellow lab, Murphy.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the newest member of their family, Linda Sykes, who was a wonderful caregiver and friend to Jack during his last days.
Memorials in Jack’s name can be sent to the Kelsey Zehring Children’s Foundation: 269 Woodmont Drive, Memphis, TN 38117. The mission of the Kelsey Zehring Children’s Foundation is to provide assistance to local charities and individuals that minister to the medical, social, and personal needs of children.
You will be forever missed this side of Heaven Granddaddy Jack
