Ralph Pittman's Obituary
Ralph Howard Pittman, 94, of Cordova died peacefully at St. Francis Hospital on August 26, 2011. Born January 23, 1917 in Ragville, LA, he was a veteran of World War II serving in Europe. He continued to serve in the Army Reserves for 20 years and retired as a Lt. Colonel. After the war, he came to Memphis and was employed in retail sales. He was a long time member of Calvary United Methodist Church and Oakhaven United Methodist Church and was presently a member of Grimes United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edythe N. Pittman; his parents, Hamilton and Georgia Pittman, his son, Ray Council; his grandson, Jason Kite; and three brothers and one sister. He is survived by his two sons, Hal (Carolyn) Council and Chuck (Melody) Pittman; six grandsons, Ward (Mary Catherine) Council, Wally (Elizabeth) Council, Steve (Julie) Council, Sean Kite, Noah Pittman, and Logan Pittman. He is also survived by six great granddaughters and four great grandsons. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 29, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home with a service of celebration at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to Grimes United Methodist Church or the United Methodist Neighborhood Centers. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home, 566 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN , “Behind the Stone Wall”.
