Rae Frances Reeves White's Obituary
RAE REEVES WHITE, 96, passed away October 16, 2010 at Baptist Trinity Hospice. She was the daughter of Col. Ray C. and Amanda Reeves and widow of William J. White. She was a graduate of Humes High School and a long-time member of Trinity Methodist Church. In her youth, she was involved in many social activities and was chosen a princess and lady-in-waiting to the King and Queen for the 1933 Memphis Cotton Carnival. She was working in New York City in 1940, but returned to Memphis at the urging of her parents due to the escalation of the War in Europe and perceived threat to the Atlantic Coast. After marriage in 1940, she became a full-time homemaker, but continued to enjoy travel. In later years, she visited the Gulf Coast, Hawaii, the Virgin Islands, and Barbados. She was preceded in death by her only sibling, Martha Clark. She is survived by her son, Randall White; daughter, Holly White Hackler of Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and her friend and long time caregiver, Christine Allen. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m., Tuesday, October 19, and funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 20 at 1 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family requests that any memorials be sent to Trinity Methodist Church, the Humane Society or a charity of donor’s choice.
