Rachel Lynn Brown's Obituary
Rachel Lynn Brown, 30, departed her earthly journey on June 8, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of loving life to the fullest, finding joy in simple things, making the most out of everything, and was the epitome of laughter, sometimes even a stand-up comedian. Her presence alone would light up any room.
She was born January 6, 1994, in Memphis, TN. She attended elementary school at St. Ann in Bartlett. She was also a 2012 graduate of Bolton High School, where she truly recognized her love for softball and the human eye. Shortly after graduation, she began working at Eye Specialty Group (ESG) which began her career in Ophthalmology. In 2017, she graduated from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry and Spanish. Passionate about the field, she dedicated herself to learning everything she could about the human eye. Over the next 12 years, Rachel gained experience in every ophthalmic subspecialty, including oculoplastic, glaucoma, cataracts, cornea, and retina. She earned her Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification early in her career. Rachel has held various positions, including ophthalmic technician, lead technician, and most recently, ophthalmic photography technician. As a photographer, she had just begun working with an ocular oncology specialist at St. Jude who performed retinal photography and ultrasounds. She also worked at MECA and most recently UT Hamilton Eye Institute where she was very proud to use her Spanish minor and Portuguese she learned while studying abroad during her undergraduate studies. Her motto was, "Wake up, save eyes, sleep, repeat," which she faithfully followed throughout her career in the field.
At the young age of 21, she met the love of her life, Rex. Rex reintroduced her to soccer and they continued to play in a coed soccer league for many years. On April 23, 2022, Rachel and Rex were married at St. Louis Catholic Church; the love they shared was very special and anyone who knows them would agree. Rachel learned to make the best chocolate chip cookies following a recipe but always adding something special to each batch, an extra dose of love. She satisfied Rex’s sweet tooth not only with cookies, but chocolate cake, and homemade rice krispy treats were among some of her specialties. Rachel was a loyal dog mom to Vollie Crockett and feline mom to Frannie.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents: Paul and Carolyn Zoccola (Nonie and Grandpa) and Gladys Kercheval (Nana).
She is survived by her husband: Rex Brown, parents: Jason and Charlotte Vosburgh, her sister: Sarah Vosburgh: her beloved in-laws: Joel and Kiki Brown, Rhonda and Larry Wade, Sister-in-Law: Hadley (Corbin) McOlgan and her favorite nephew Owen and a plethora of family and friends who loved her unconditionally.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 16, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue, followed by a Rosary at 3:45 p.m. A mass of Catholic Burial will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 10 a.m. at St. Louis Catholic Church, 203 S White Station Road. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
