Rev. R. H. "Bob" Thompson, Jr.'s Obituary
Rev. Robert H. “Bob” Thompson Jr, 79, a wonderful father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, of Memphis, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2009.He was graduate of Southside High School and went on to attend University of Kentucky. He was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. Mr. Thompson was a retired engineer from Illinois Central Railroad and a Marine Corp veteran, where he played in the Marine Corp Band. He had a professional degree in Music and loved to play the trumpet. Mr. Thompson also received a master in Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He volunteered for prison ministry and served as a music director and pastor for many years.He is preceded in death by his wife Mary Louise Streebeck Thompson, his son Alan Thompson, and a brother, USMC Col. Charles Thompson.He is survived by his Daughter Yvonne Williams, his son Terry Thompson, and his daughter Yvette L. Beckley. He also leaves his eleven grandchildren Alexander Thompson, Melissa Thompson, Brian Thompson, Rachel Thompson, Deanna Yarnevich, Nicholas Yarnevich, Jonathan Yarnevich, Bailey Beckley, Delaney Beckley, Ainsley Beckley, Lindley Beckley, and three great grandchildren Ila Hearon, Elizabeth Duty, and Olivia Grace Yarnevich.The family will receive friends from 5-7 on Monday, August 31, 2009, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at 11:30 a.m., also at the funeral home.The family requests that any memorials be sent to Ridgeway Baptist Church.
