She graduated from Lausanne School for Girls and Stephens College. She was married to Samuel Baker Chism during WWII, widowed after 34 years of marriage. She then married Adam B. Jett, whom she’d known since double dating with him during her courtship by Sam Chism, who was nicknamed Dick. She then was widowed upon his death after five years of marriage. She resided at Trezevant Manor for a number of years. She leaves her brother, Thomas Leatherwood, Jr., of Germantown, her son, Samuel B. Chism, Jr., of Houston, TX, and her daughter, Priscilla Chism, of Alexandria, Virginia. In addition she is survived by four grandchildren, Eddie Chism of Houston, Amanda Chism of Whittier, CA, Calvert Thompson of Reston, VA, and Shelby Thompson, of Washington, DC. A memorial service will be held in celebration of her life on Saturday, May 28, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Central at Greer, at 2 pm. Donations in her memory may be sent to Tails of Hope Dog Rescue, P.O. Box 30245, Memphis, TN 38130 (a no-kill 501C3 non profit). The Lausanne Locket yearbook of 1938 had the quote below her photo, “To know her is to love her.” Still I believe she’s there for me, I sense her in the night. She hears my cry She soothes my pain She knows one day with joy again I’ll greet the morning light. And then, at last, she’ll come to me, Our souls will intertwine And she will smile As she did when We were as one, for now, as then Her love is the Divine.
