Preston Sisk's Obituary
On Monday, February 14, 2011, Ivan Preston Sisk, Jr. died peacefully at his home.Born in Memphis June 12, 1920 to Ivan P. and Maude Copeland Sisk, he was raised by his mother, his stepfather Ernest J. Wenzler, and his grandmother Annie L. Sisk.Mr. Sisk graduated from Christian Brothers High School, and served in the U.S. Army in North Africa and Italy during World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.Mr. Sisk was a partner, with his brother-in-law, in Melgara and Company, grocers, from the mid-1940’s until his retirement in 1988.Upon his return from the war, he married the former Mary Melgara on September 12, 1945.They were blessed with five children:Preston Sisk of Edenton, North Carolina, Gina Drachman of Seattle, Washington, Leigh Butler of Park Ridge, Illinois, Jeanette Sisk of Queens, New York, and Bisha Harrington of Memphis; five living grandchildren:Penelope Peter of Kitchener, Ontario; Jacob, Lauren, and Caleb Harrington of Memphis, and James J. Butler of Park Ridge, Illinois; and three great-grandchildren:Abigail, Emma and Madeleine Peter of Kitchener, Ontario. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Mary, who died in 2006, and by one grandson, Austin Frank Harrington, who died in 1994. A communicant at St Brigid’s Catholic Church, he was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, an avid bowler in the K. of C. League and a supporter of the Annual Brotherhood Tournament. Interested in golf since high school, he enjoyed playing regularly at Galloway for several years after his retirement. Visitation will be at Memorial Park on Wednesday, February 16, at 5:00 followed by a rosary at 7:00. Funeral will be at St Brigid’s Catholic Church at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, February 17, followed by interment at Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Madonna Learning Center.
