Louie and I had the great pleasure of being neighbors to Pleshette and Kas during their first years in Memphis. And as coincidence would have it Pleshette and I ended up being pregant at the same time. In fact, our deliveries were within days of each other and we had the opportunity to visit each other within the hospital.Neither one of us had family here in Memphis and Pleshette was a great comfort to me in those early months. We checked in with one another, commiserating about the lack of sleep and infants that refused to adhere to a desired schedule as well as trading promising strategies for soothing fussy babies. While we were support to one another during the difficult times we also shared stories of those first magical milestones of infancy.Once the warmer weather arrived, we enjoyed spring time walks with Seraphine and Audrey. We talked about and planned for our return to our respective careers following maternity leave and shared our trepidations around striking a balance between our former careers and our newly appointed positions as mothers. We were two women embarking on a journey with no road map. We had only our instincts and each other as a sounding board.Within a year of Audrey being born Louie and I decided to transition from living downtown to Midtown. We continued however to keep in touch with Pleshette, Kas and Seraphine. We would occasionally run into each other, as one does in Memphis, and Audrey and Seraphine instantly connected as old friends. It was as if those early months they shared together established an unbreakable bond. While my time knowing Pleshette was limited, she has and will continue to be a cherished friend with whom I shared a transitional life experience. I can’t imagine what that point in my life would have been like without her friendship and support. She will ever remain in my heart and memory as an incredibly talented, passionate, and compassionate woman. Her deep love of Kas and Seraphine was ever evident as well as her passion and commitment for her work. Memphis has lost an amazing friend, mother, wife, colleague, and leader. We mourn her loss, but remember fondly all the happiness, joy, and love she brought to us all.
