Phyllis Jean Malin Benson's Obituary
Phyllis Jean Malin Benson, 90 years old, moved to her heavenly home on February 18, 2024. Phyllis was a Godly woman who loved the Lord and her family. She set an example for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that will lead them all their lives. Phyllis was born in Flint, Michigan on April 11,1933 to the late Esco and Nadine Malin. She is preceded in death by her husband Bill and siblings Peggy Banks, Ken Malin, Tom Malin and Ron Malin.
Phyllis was the second born of six children. She learned early how to cook and sew to help care for the younger children. She loved to cook meals for her family and sewed clothing for herself, her children, and grandchildren. She made each grandchild and great grandchild their own special blanket. Phyllis was also a talented writer. She wrote a poem for each grandchild and great grandchild on their first birthday. She wrote many other stories about family members. Phyllis was an avid fisherwoman who loved to catch saltwater fish in Sarasota or freshwater crappie and bluegill. She never missed an opportunity to pick up a fishing pole!
Phyllis loved God’s word and her Savior, the Lord Jesus, with all her heart. Phyllis was a powerful prayer warrior and served in her church teaching and ministering to others. She loved to sing, especially with her siblings, and could always be heard humming or singing wherever she went.
She married the love of her life Bill Benson on July 4, 1953 in Campbell, Missouri where they met as high school sweethearts. They were married 65 years before Bill’s passing in 2019. Her marriage was the joy of her life. They were inseparable and could always be seen snuggling on the couch and holding hands. Their love and care for one another was an example to be followed.
Phyllis is survived by her son Marty Benson and daughter in love Debby, daughter Mindy Wright and favorite son in love Bryan, granddaughter's Rachel Kirmeyer and Kirk, Rebekah Yeldell and Andrew, and her most precious blessings, great grandchildren Charli Kate Yeldell, Myles Yeldell, Jedidiah Kirmeyer, and awaiting Jack Kirmeyer. She also leaves her sister and best friend Judi Lewis and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. She will be buried at the Memphis Veterans Cemetery with Bill. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations can be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your paths.
