Philip Menk's Obituary
Philip A. Menk September 12, 1938 to January 25, 2015Philip A. Menk peacefully passed away after a short illness on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at Baptist Hospital in Memphis, TN with family at his side. He was 76 years old and a resident of Westmoreland, TN. Philip was predeceased by parents, Marion Vizard Bull and Callan Francis Bull, and brother, Max E. Menk Jr.Philip was born in Washington D.C. on September 12, 1938. Philip lived most of his life in New Orleans, LA, and graduated from De La Salle High School, where he was a starting point guard for championship basketball teams. An alumnus of L.S.U., Philip loyally cheered for his Tigers. Philip spent his working career as a Controller for Sears & Roebuck in New Orleans, Mobile and Pensacola. He also served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in New Orleans as a Flotilla Commander. Philip commanded several vessels in the Auxiliary on a number of Search and Rescue missions with his wife, Sally, and his good friends and fellow Auxiliary members Mary and Richard McConnell. Philip was qualified and served as an aircrew member in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for many years. Philip was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying his airplane. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing golf, and visiting family.Philip is survived by his daughter, Kathy Albertine (Palmer) of Memphis, TN, and his three sons, Philip Menk Jr. (Ruth) of Columbia, MO, David Menk (Gayle) of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, Michael Menk (Carlin) of Fairhope, AL and by 10 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He is also survived by Sally Wells Menk of Gulf Breeze, FL, to whom he was married for 46 years.Arrangements are entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home of Memphis. The family will have a private service to celebrate his life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wings Cancer Foundation in Memphis, TN.
