I went to visit Peter on Sunday at Signature Rehab and he said he was ready, but that’s how Peter lived his life, in readiness to meet the Lord.During a visit to St. Francis Hospital, he had confided in me that the Lord had visited him and said “Peter, I love you”.Peter was actively involved in the Respect Life ministry at Holy Rosary Church and rain or shine, he led the Rosary for Life each Saturday at the three abortion mills in Memphis. When it was cold, he always brought coffee for us. Peter was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a lector at Holy Rosary. He was involved in the St. Vincent de Paul Society and whenever he had an opportunity, he brought food to the Missionary Sisters of Charity Shelter for homeless women. In addition to bringing food to those less fortunate, he also took any oppportunity he had to spread the Good News, simply by telling a stranger at the grocery store that they were loved by Jesus Christ.Peter was a daily listener of Teresa Tomeo, who hosts “The Catholic Connection” on Ave Maria Radio, and he always gave out cards that had her call in number 712-432-7800 I think I have about ten of these cards left, and somewhere, I bet Peter has a boxful. Peter was quite an evangelizer for his Catholic faith. It is no stretch of the imagination to believe that Peter met St. Peter at the Pearly Gates in true humility this morning, and heard the Lord telling him once again how much He loved him, as well as “Well done, good and faithful servant”. When we were talking on Sunday afternoon, he said he would have to give an accounting of his life to the Lord. I smiled and told Peter that if he forgot anything, that I would remind the Lord of all the great things he did. I guess that’s what I just did. Rest in peace my friend. You will be missed. Pray for us as we pray for you.
