Peter John Fuess' Obituary
On Monday July 25, 2022, loving father and husband Peter John Fuess died at the age of 69.
Peter was born June 30, 1953 in Limerick, Ireland, adopted by Carl and Olivette Fuess at age
3, and spoke only Irish when he immigrated to the United States in 1956.
He worked as a software developer and project manager at International Paper for 30 years
before retiring in 2019.
Peter met Aline at the Memphis State swimming pool in 1984 and asked if he could share her
lane. They’ve been sharing lanes ever since. Together, they competed in many triathlons, 5Ks,
10Ks, half marathons, and biked century rides. They loved parties, and Peter loved to be the
first one there and the last to leave.
Peter and Aline wed in July 1988, and recently celebrated their 34th anniversary. Their sons,
Healy and Matt, were the focus of their lives, and he instilled in them a love of sports and
learning. Whether it was supporting Healy’s tennis journey, backpacking mountain trails with
Matt, or working out with Aline, he loved being with his family. He is the embodiment of a family
man, and he will be sorely missed.
Peter was an avid athlete, modest intellectual, ardent father, and staunch husband, and as an
Irishman, he was the goofiest and funniest lad you’d ever met with kind, crinkly eyes and a
gentle, fun-loving spirit. He prioritized love and family, all while stopping to smell the roses. He
strove to live life to the fullest, and he loved telling Aline, “Live a little!”
Peter was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Carl and Chris. He is survived by
his wife Aline, sons Healy and Matt, and brother John among cousins, nieces, and nephews.
On Saturday July 30, St. Louis Catholic Church will host a visitation at noon and a funeral mass
at 2 with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please send all donations to the Mid-South Food Bank or St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital.
