Peggy Trevathan Perkins' Obituary
Peggy (Trevathan) Perkins, 87 years of age, the daughter of Peggy Gravette Trevathan (deceased) and Irvin Franklin Trevathan (deceased) was born in Memphis, TN. on June 26th 1935. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles (Charlie) Perkins, her brothers Richard Trevathan (Virginia) and Billy Trevathan (Charlotte).
She passed away peacefully at her home in Nashville, TN along with her three daughters, granddaughters, son’s-in-law, and a family friend on November 19, 2022.
Peggy lived a gracious life as a dedicated loving Christian wife and mother of four children, with a special love for her cherished church family and many friends. She was an outstanding elementary school teacher at St. Mary’s Episcopal School in Memphis and for Shelby County Schools, as her many now grown students would remember her sweetly as “Mrs. Perkins”. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday School at Forest Hills Baptist, in Germantown. She volunteered her time whenever possible, including Baptist Women’s groups, and in reading to children in school.
She was a mother of four children whom she adored, and was greatly loved by her husband, Charlie Perkins now deceased, and a supportive wife for over 65 years. She was a great support for her husband in his Memphis and Shelby County law business and political career.
Peggy greatly enjoyed traveling along with her husband throughout the United States and parts of the world and was always appreciative of that opportunity. She was an avid reader, and an art enthusiast and talent who studied and created wonderful pictures that she enjoyed sharing with her family and friends.
She loved her Alma Mater, Union University, in Jackson, TN, where she met the love of her life and husband, Charlie. She was a proud member of the Chi Omega Sorority there at the college. She was a strong supporter of education, and proudly graduated from college with her teaching degree, and later went on to obtain her Masters’ Degree while dutifully raising four children and supporting her husband.
Her surviving children: Gretchen Thorogood (Will), Kevin Perkins (Cindi), Stacy McLallen (John), Tracy White (Ross).
Grandchildren: John Radford Taylor, Kate Taylor Meador (Andrew), Peggy McLallen (Edward), Andrew Perkins, Jack McLallen, Emily Owings (Stephen), and Charlie White and four great grandchildren Addison Duncan, Ruthie Duncan, Elizabeth Meador and Everleigh Owings.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Pekins will be conducted on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 12:00p.m. at Forest Hill Baptist Church. Visitation will be held from 11:00am until the service hour. Burial will follow in West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
