Peggy Lloyd Monger's Obituary
Peggy Lloyd Monger, 88, of Memphis TN, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 1st, 2024.
Peggy, also affectionately known as Gigi to her grand and great grandchildren, was born January 23, 1936 to Dorothy and Bobby Lloyd. She attended the Hutchinson School For Girls and Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Delta Sigma Theta. She graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in English and a minor in History.
On February 6, 1960, she married Dr. Ralph Horace Monger Jr. and they resided in Washington DC while Ralph completed his residency in urology and Peggy worked as a medical secretary. They moved back to Memphis where they started their family. She and Ralph were blessed to enjoy traveling to many beautiful places around the world. They were passionate about Tennessee Vols football and they rarely missed their standing Thursday movie date. She loved her job as a devoted homemaker and mother to their three children. She was quite the night owl and was known for being up to greet her children during their teenage years, and she became quite famous for her midnight cheese dip that she used to lure all the scoop from her children’s friends.
Peggy volunteered for many organizations including The Woman’s Exchange, Junior League of Memphis and Les Passees. She was actively involved in Second Presbyterian Church where they were members. Peggy also enjoyed her involvement in Tuesday Study Club and her monthly book club where she made life -long friends. She was very involved with her children and their numerous activities, but she always had time for shopping and caring for animals. She had nurtured just about every breed of dog, cat and injured wildlife. There was always room in the Monger home for one more animal.
Peggy was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy Baldwin Lloyd, her father, Robert Newton Lloyd, and her sister, Linda Lloyd Wade Harwood. Peggy will be greatly missed by her son, Ralph Horace Monger III, Trip, his wife Margaret and their children Callie Ellis (Tyler) and Duncan Monger, (Aubrey Ann), her son Robert Lloyd Monger, his wife Angie and their children Grace and Robert, and her daughter Dorothy Monger Moseley, her husband Eric and their children Jackson (Katherine) and Parker (Emma). Gigi was also blessed with 5 great grandchildren, Crawford, Wesley, Miles, Wells, and Lita. Peggy also leaves behind nieces and nephews, many friends and her angel on earth, Brenda Brown, who she adored.
A visitation will be held Saturday, September 7th at 10:00 am with the funeral to follow at 11:00 am. Graveside service to follow, all at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to The Church Health Center or The Humane Society of Memphis.
