Peggy Jean Hughes Higgins' Obituary
Peggy Jean Hughes Higgins, 80, a longtime resident of Hernando, MS, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 14, 2022, after a long illness.
The only child of the late Jessie James and Cassie Agatha Turner, Peggy was born in Amory, Mississippi. She began her working life as a beautician, then after earning her bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Mississippi, Peggy taught English at Southaven High School. Later she became a Contract Specialist at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in Washington, D.C.
A widow, Peggy survived two beloved husbands, Charles R. Hughes and William A. Higgins, Sr.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, and was a devout Christian.
She is survived by her children Chuck Hughes (Teri) of Sherwood, Arkansas; Melaina Hughes and Dana Hughes Barton (Mike) of Hernando, Mississippi; Bill Higgins, Jr. (Christina), of Dunedin, Florida, and Krista Higgins Duffee (Mike) of Arlington, Tennessee. She also leaves two cherished grandsons, Luke Barton and Nathan Hughes.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Higgins will be held on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at 11:00am at Memorial Park Funeral Home in the Fireside Chapel with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service from 10:00am to 11:00am. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
