Pearleye S. Harkness' Obituary
Pearleye Harkness was born May 26, 1939 in Town Creek, Alabama to Bessie Smith and George Smith. A people person and servant leader, she was active in many community organizations including Girl Scouts, Sigma Gamma Rho, Habitat for Humanity in Chattanooga, TN, and Black Methodists for Church Renewal. She was an active member of Capleville United Methodist Church, where she held leadership positions and served on various teams. Pearleye graduated from Tennessee State University in Nashville, TN with a Bachelor’sDegree in Education and held a Master’s Degree in Education from University of Youngstown in Youngstown, OH. She retired as an educator in the Lake County School System in Gary, Indiana, where she was recognized as an Exceptional Special Education Teacher. Pearleye transitioned from labor to refreshment on June 14, 2018. Visitation is June 22, 2018, 5-7 pm and the homegoing celebration is June 23, 2018 at 10 a.m., with 9 a.m. visitation.
