Pauline Williams' Obituary
Pauline Elizabeth Maddox Williams, 91, died on July 3, 2015. Polly was born on August 20, 1923 to Florence and Ernest Maddox in Saco, Maine. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Paul James Williams of Memphis, her sister Florence Maddox Davis of Saco, Maine, and her brother George Maddox of South Carolina. She will be dearly remembered and missed by her sister, Arlene Maddox Murchison (Darrell) of Saco, Maine, and her three daughters, all of Memphis: Susan Williams Turman, Karen Williams Pedigo (Phil) and Elizabeth “Libby” Williams Moore Shelton (Larry).Polly served in the Women’s Army Corps from 1943-45. She moved to Memphis in 1945 upon her marriage to Paul Williams, a teacher with the Memphis City Schools. She was a former member of Colonial Park Methodist Church and in her later years, Highland Church of Christ.She was affectionately known as “Nanny” to her 8 beloved grandchildren who will all miss her fun-loving spirit: Billy Moore of Memphis; Rachel Turman Baker (Adam) of Germantown; Phillip Pedigo (Jennifer) of Memphis; Russ Turman (Amy) of Memphis; Brian Moore (Meredith) of Memphis; Paul Pedigo of Atlanta; Elijah Turman, Jr. (Jackie) of Memphis; and Katie Pedigo Higdon (Kevin) of Memphis. She also leaves 12 great-grandchildren who filled her later years with so much joy: Lauren Moore, Cooper Turman, Laura Beth Baker, Kessler Baker, Jackson Moore, Haley Pedigo, Jack Turman, Wilson Baker, Bailey Moore, Allyson Pedigo, Tuck Turman, and Alice Higdon.Visitation will be at 12pm on Monday, July 6, with funeral services and graveside immediately following at 1pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to either University of Memphis Athletic Scholarship Fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall”
