Paul Kendall's Obituary
Francis Paul Kendall, 90 years old, a retired businessman, died on April 21, 2015 at Holy Cross Hospital. He lived in Hillsboro Beach, Florida.Mr. Kendall was born July 26, 1924. He grew up in Memphis and then Chattanooga where he graduated from McCallie High School in 1942. After attending one semester at the University of Tennessee, he joined the Air Force where he was a flight instructor for the remainder of World War II. He married Margaret Sullivan and returned to Chattanooga where he joined his father in managing the family business Kayo Oil Company, a chain of gas stations which they later sold to Conoco Oil Company.Mr. Kendall moved to London, England where he initially worked as Chair of Conoco England and later as Chair of Conoco Europe. He retired in 1976 and moved to Hillsboro Beach, Florida where he enjoyed golf, boating, and was known for his expertise in duplicate bridge. His memberships over the years included the Young Presidents Organization, Chattanooga Golf and Country Club, the Royal Palm Country Club, and the Ft. Lauderdale Yacht Club.His survivors include his three daughters Kay Kendall, Judy Hyde Smith, Ann Stephens, his five grandchildren Katherine Kendall Butler, Sydney Johnston Butler, Jr, Kendall Morgan Rhodes, Bo Hyde, Paul Kendall Stephens and six great-grandchildren.Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Friday, April 24 and funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Saturday, April 25 at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, Memphis, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for memorials to be directed to the charity of their choice.Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38119, “Behind the Stone Wall.”
