Patti Vernor's Obituary
Patricia Joy Vernor, 75, of Covington Tennessee, passed away after a long illness. She is preceded in death by a daughter, Kitty Baker, and her parents, James and Joy Yarbrough. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 56 years, John Vernor, Jr., of Cordova, a daughter, Holly Oliver (Rocky) of Bartlett, a daughter Bonnie Henry (Tommy) of Arlington, and a son, Michael Vernor (Debbie), of Memphis. She also leaves behind eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a sister, Jean Jones (Jerry), of Cordova. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Millington. Over the course of forty years she played the piano and organ and taught sixth grade Sunday School for several churches. She retired as President of the family business, Yarbrough Cable Service, Inc. During her years in the rigging industry, Patricia served on the Safety Committee for the American Wire Rope Federation and was well respected in the industry. She was a graduate of Bartlett High School and the DeShazo College of Music. Patricia was a member of The Beethoven Club for over 40 years and served on the board for several terms. She founded the International Beethoven Sonata Competition in 1988 which is held at Rhodes College every two years. Patricia was known for her sense of humor, her benevolent heart, and she was a best friend to many. The family will receive friends on Monday, November 2 from 12:00-1:00pm with the service to immediately follow. All services will be held at Memorial Park Funeral Home. The family request that any donations in her memory be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
