Patricia Mulcahy Sadd's Obituary
Patricia Mulcahy Sadd, 88, died July 22 under hospice care at The Village at Germantown.
Her life was defined by a deep love of family, especially her husband of 65 years, Nigel; daughter, Susan Greenop; and grandson, Andrew Greenop (Sarah). She was very happy that she lived to meet her great-grandson, Val Greenop.
Born December 30, 1933, in Dagenham, England, to Joseph and Gwendoline Mulcahy, Pat grew up in England, Northern Ireland, and the South of Ireland. During World War II, her father worked building ships in the Belfast shipyards.
When she was 16, she met Nigel at Our Lady of Muswell Catholic Church youth club in Muswell Hill, North London, where the pair started ballroom dancing. They continued to dance at the Sunday-night social group and anywhere they found a ballroom, typically clearing the floor as fellow dancers stopped to marvel at their style and grace. They shared that love of ballroom dancing for many decades. Pat and Nigel married at Our Lady of Muswell in 1956 and settled in North London where Susan was born. In 1973 the family moved to Greenwich, Connecticut, and later relocated to Memphis.
Pat enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean with her husband and she traveled on spring break trips with her daughter and grandson throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. A longtime member of the Church of the Holy Spirit in Memphis and a resident of The Village at Germantown Retirement Community, she had a large circle of friends.
Christmas was a cherished time for Pat, and she always put on a traditional English Christmas dinner, presented on an elegantly appointed table.
In addition to her husband, daughter, grandson and his wife, and great-grandson, she is survived by her sister, Gwen Soane, as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her parents and her brothers, Joe Mulcahy and Val Mulcahy.
A memorial mass will be held on Thursday, August 11th at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Holy Spirit, 2300 Hickory Crest Drive, Memphis, TN, 38119, with reception and celebration of life to follow.
The family requests that any donations be sent to The Village at Germantown Foundation, which provides financial assistance for residents with increased health care expenses.
