Patricia "Pat" Wren (Breeden) Williams' Obituary
Patricia "Pat" Wren (Breeden) Williams passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas at the age of 85. Her family was by her bedside.
Patricia was born to Marvin Woodrow Breeden and Kathleen Elizabeth Medlock Breeden on January 16th, 1939, in Memphis, TN. She had a beautiful soprano voice and at age 16 she sang “The Lord’s Prayer” on the radio in Memphis. She graduated from Central High School in 1957 and then attended the Draughton’s Business School from 1958-1959.
Pat married James David Williams (David) on January 30, 1960, in Memphis. Right after marriage, Pat worked at Memphis Light & Power while David finished his master’s degree at Memphis State and his training as a National Guard medic.
While David attended East Texas State University-Commerce for his Doctorate, Pat operated a home daycare, sewed costumes, and assisted in a catering business for the school.
They moved to Abilene, TX in 1962 where then Dr. David Williams began his 38-year career in the English Dept at Abilene Christian University (ACU).
Pat served on the ACU Faculty Wives Committee and was a long-standing elder’s wife at the University Church of Christ. She served the congregation in many capacities including teaching Sunday School, Thursday school, and helping in the church office.
Mrs. Williams graduated from ACU in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. She ran a licensed daycare in her home for 15 years. She began a10-year career at Interior Design in Abilene as the business office manager, bookkeeper, and designer. She held her State Board Interior Design certificate for 12 years.
Pat and David lived in Abilene for 38 years before moving to Midlothian, TX to be closer to their grandchildren.
After David and Pat moved to Midlothian, Pat and her daughter Kay began and operated The Wren’s Nest, an interior design firm where Pat did florals, sewed window treatments, and decorated for clients. She also worked as a substitute teacher and full-time librarian at Venus Elementary School in Venus, TX for two years.
After David passed away in March 2007, Pat moved to Lubbock to be with Kay and Donna’s families. She attended Sunset Church of Christ until her health declined.
She is survived by a loving family who all look forward to reuniting with her in eternity: her three daughters and sons-in- law, Donna Bullington (Brad), Kay Pruitt (Brad), Michele Carroll (Kerry), one brother, Wayne Breeden (Carolyn) of Memphis, TN, five grandchildren, and eleven nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery.
