Patricia Oswald Welden's Obituary
Patricia Oswald Welden passed away May 22, 2014 after a fierce battle against cancer. The family encourages friends and family to gather for a graveside service at Memorial Park Cemetery on Tuesday, May 27th at 10:00 a.m.“Patsy”, as her family called her, or “Pat”, as she later called herself, was always an animal lover, and bought her first horse with hard-earned money at an early age, after graduating from Central High School in 1965.She also attended the University of Memphis, and graduated with acclaim from Methodist School of Nursing and worked as a nurse manager until she retired from Methodist Hospital.She bred American Quarter Horses, and later raised and showed Chinese Crested and Maltese dogs, and served as Secretary, Membership Chairman, Confirmation Class Coordinator, board member and Director of the Greater Shelby Kennel Club. She also received the Kennel Clubs’s Member of the Year award.Over the last seven years, the Maltese dog won her heart, and she developed a website called Imagine Maltese where she showcased her prized breed. She served as recording secretary for the American Maltese Association and was a strong supporter of the AMA rescue foundation.She was a good friend and mentor of many people, with her energies in recent years focused on fellow dog owners.She leaves two sons, Chip Welden of Tampa, FL, and Jonathan Welden of Memphis, TN, and three grandchildren, Drew Welden and Jackie Welden of Memphis, and Olivia Welden of Tampa.She is survived by her sisters, Connie Tilton and Cheryl Sullivan of Memphis.The family asks that memorials be sent in kind to takethelead.org, americanmalteserescue.org, or Trinity Lutheran Church.
