Pat’s passing brings home the truth that our lives are not defined by events, but by the people we love. We had been friends since the 1st grade, shared all the silly stuff as pre--teens and teenagers do. In our later years, we corresponded with long letters that evoked laughter and camaraderie and always picked up from the last time we talked.
Someone very wise once said that death is not the dimming of a light, but extinguishing a lamp because the dawn has arrived. I know that Pat’s spirit flourishes again on another horizon. But that having been said, this side of my own grave, I will always miss her. May the memory of all the things she was and is and always will be sustain her family and friends: As long as we have the minds and hearts in which to live and honor her memory, she will never be forgotten.
