P.M. "Monte" Robinson Jr.'s Obituary
P.M “Monte” Robinson, Jr was born Nov. 15, 1932 to Kathryn McCarthy and P.M. “Monte” Robinson, Sr. in Memphis, TN where he was a lifelong resident. He passed away on May 27th at 2:00 pm after a brief illness.
Monte was the oldest of 8 siblings. After graduating from CBC (now CBHS), Monte attended Spring Hill College before returning home and graduating from Memphis State College. During this time he was a member of SAE Fraternity where he met many lifelong friends. He went on to U.T. Medical School and ended up leaving to marry the love of his life for 52 years, Sheila Balton, “Little Mother”. Monte was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and friend to many. Also, he was very passionate and active in Civic duty and local politics, which included serving as a Reserve Police Officer for MPD for over 40 years. Many who knew him have stated, “I love him! He was such a good person who was always willing to drop everything at a moment’s notice for a friend or family member in need!” Monte never met a stranger and would always make a connection with everyone he met. If he didn’t know them, he knew one of their family members or a friend. This was one of his greatest strengths that helped him in his career as a Sales professional.
Monte spent his childhood and summers working at his father’s restaurant, Monte’s Drive Inn & Catering with his brothers & sisters. Many of their catering jobs included Parties at Elvis Presley’s Graceland! With his medical background and his gift of having “the memory of an elephant”, Monte was an excellent Territory sales manager for Pfizer where he was often asked to take over underperforming territories where he successfully improved sales. He often recounted conversations with Physicians and the fact that he could understand and relate to the medical Professionals as the keys to his success. His professional career ultimately culminated in Commercial Real Estate at Crye-Leike until his retirement at age 80.
As a family, we spent many Summer Sundays at the family farm which always ended up with a “sleep over” by many nieces and nephews. During the winter months, Monte made certain the family participated in the Sunday spaghetti dinners at Paw Paw & Nanny’s and watching football! While he had very little time spare time, he enjoyed hunting & fishing with his Uncles and brothers. Monte loved to socialize! In fact, he frequented the Belmont Bar & Grill to visit with friends and family.
Monte was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila, his parents, his younger brother, Tom “Jigs” Robinson, his sister-in-law, Virginia Robinson and his Grandson, Bryce Robinson. He is survived by his 6 children, Lynn Shea (George), Brian Robinson (Tiffany), Cathy Sachse (Tom), Randy Robinson (Beth), Leslie Jamieson (Ronnie) and Peter Robinson. He also leaves behind to cherish his memory, 8 Grandchildren, Wesley Morgan (Trayce), Hailey Etter (James) Taylor Weston (Stephen), Alex Robinson, Brent Robinson, Christopher Jamieson (Ashley), Sara Kathryn Pace and Grace McNatt as well as, 9 Great Grandchildren and his 3 brothers, Danny Robinson, Michael Robinson (Cindy), Vince Robinson (DeDe) and 3 sisters, Kathryn Spearing (Tom), Donna Greco (Jimmy) and Theresa Mills (John) and a whole host of loving cousins, nieces and nephews.
The visitation will be held Thursday, June 2, 2022 from 4:30-6:30 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar Ave. The funeral service will be Friday, June 3 at 2:00 pm at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Memphis, TN. Interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to the Poor Clare Nuns located 37 McCauley Rd Travelers Rest, SC 29690 or Baptist Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville, TN.
