Oscar F. Edwards' Obituary
Oscar F. Edwards, 82, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at Carriage Court of Memphis. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 27 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in the chapel at Second Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 28. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Anne Thornton Edwards, and is survived by a daughter, Kathy Edwards Fossick (Joe) of Lake St. Louis, MO; a son, Jimmy Edwards (Mary) of Memphis; his grandchildren, Mary Grace Edwards, Jay Edwards, John Edwards, Annie Laurie Fossick Vining (Erik), Leigh Anne Fossick Fucile (Frank), and Kathryn Fossick McVey (Bryan); and by four great grandchildren. He was born July 28, 1927 in Memphis and graduated from Treadwell High School. After graduating from Airborne School in Fort Benning, GA in 1946, he served in the 82 Airborne Division in the European operation in Italy. He received the World War II Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal. He then attended Memphis State University and enjoyed a long career in commercial banking with Commercial Credit, Marine Midland Bank and National Bank of Commerce. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church for many years where he served as deacon, elder, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Class President. In retirement Oscar loved playing golf and spending time with family. He was a great encourager, and was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor. He had a gift for bringing joy and laughter to all he came in contact with. He will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be sent to Second Presbyterian Church.
