There are so many great memories of Brit. He was my Sunday School teacher and he never failed to send me a card and note if I missed a Sunday School class. He had a love and passion for the youth.
A regular late night stop for many of us was Waffle House. Who doesn't love breakfast food, right? We were young so we were often out and about until midnight or later. Tommy Jaynes and I would love to go by and wake up Brit in the middle of the night. He would get up, fix us breakfast (he made a great breakfast), and hang out talking with us for hours. He would love to "fuss" about it the next week during Sunday School but I know he loved and cherished that time as much as I (we) did.
When I saw the picture of Brit and Linda in that red car, I remembered a time he was on some retreat in Florida. He left Tommy and I in charge of house sitting while he was gone. I think the trip was for a week. Approximately 1/2 way into the trip, we drove that red car down to Florida, found Brit, told him we came down just to let him know everything was okay with the house and drove back. He was so shocked when he saw us. He just chuckled, shook his head and made one of his typical (funny) remarks. When he got back, he fixed us a late night breakfast.
I only saw Brit periodically throughout most of the 90's. We might run into each other here or there and it was always great to see him. We would always say that we need to get together and catch up. I would threaten to come wake him up in the middle of the night for breakfast. I moved away about 20 years ago and have rarely been back. I regret I never woke him up for that breakfast and conversation before I moved. The last time I saw Brit was approximately 4 years ago at a friend's funeral/visitation. I was so happy to see him and introduce him to my wife. He got to hear me tell my wife what a special man and cherished friend he is and what an impact he made on my life. I hope he always knew how much I loved him and cherished our friendship.
