Norene Smith's Obituary
Norene “Memommie” Stamey Smith, 87, of Lakeland, TN, passed away February 20, 2011 in her home. She was born in Brownsfield, MS May 18, 1923. She was the daughter of the late R.L. and Mary Lou Stamey. She married Fred W. Smith when he returned from service in the US Navy. After many years of hard work, they planned and built their retirement home in Lakeland and with a handful of others, were founders of the City of Lakeland. She was a long time member of Ridgeway Baptist Church and lived for her beloved family and friends. Norene is survived by one son, Larry Smith and his wife Virginia of Lakeland; two granddaughters, Jaclyn Smith of Kennesaw, Georgia and Stephanie Smith of Memphis; great-granddaughter, Madison Smith; two sisters, Annie Chism and Pauline Spencer of Memphis; and brother, Clyde Stamey of Michigan City, MS. Mrs. Smith is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Fred W. Smith; two sisters, Eva Bell and Sadie Wardlow; and three brothers, J.D., William Earl, and Charlie Stamey. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. Wednesday February 23, at Memorial Park Funeral Home with funeral service to follow at 2:30 p.m. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
