Nola Jean Overton's Obituary
Nola Jean Overton, 82 years of age died May 27, 2012. Jean was born January 15, 1930 in the community of Gravel Hill, McNairy county TN. Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband Ted Overton, and her parents Alvis and Arnie Huggins. Jean is survived by one son Jeffery L. Overton of Nashville TN. Jean has 5 brothers and sisters. Norman Huggins of Oakland, TN, Wilma Cooksey of Collierville, Edwin Huggins of Cordova, Phillip Huggins of Gravel Hill Tn, and Craig Huggins of Huntsville, Ala. Jean has numerous nieces and nephews. Jean was a faithful member of Germantown Baptist Church. Jean loved to sing in the choir, participate with the senior Merrymaker group, and worship the lord in the way she was brought up. Her church family tirelessly did many things for her and she always greatly appreciated their kindness and generosity. Jean graduated from Memphis State, and was a homemaker and loving mother. She married Ted Overton in 1952. Jean and Ted lived many places over the years as work moved them and together they made numerous lasting friendships. Many of the years they spent in the Memphis area. Jean loved to play bridge and have luncheons with the many friends she amassed over the years. Jean loved to read and many of the books she read were of faith and the love of God. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 29th, and funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 30, 2012 both at Memorial Park Funeral Home and Cemetery. Interment will follow at Memphis Memory Gardens. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Lupus Foundation in Jean’s honor.
