Dean White impacted many. We knew him as Professor White. There is no way to put it except that he remains a pillar of the law school. As a first year student (2008), he came out of retirement to teach Property Law. He elected to give a midterm for the sole purpose of helping his students adjust to the demands of law school. This doesn’t happen. His election to make extra work for himself helped me get off to a good start on my legal career. I have very fond memories of him. While I know he lead a full life, I am saddened by the family’s (and legal community’s loss). He will be missed.

Thank you for your courage and service WWII. My courageous Father ,deceased, was also a Univ. Of Memphis prof.. A U.S. Navy veteran also b.1925 he is sorely and daily missed. May they RIP .So few remain. I extend my sympathy to the family. I know the heartache.

Dean White made such an impact on both my husband and I, that we both want to pass along our condolences. Dean White and Mrs. White were instrumental in helping my husband, Shaun, get a golf scholarship to Indiana University. My husband’s time at IU ultimately led to his long career on the PGA tour. Additionally, Dean White was the Dean and one of my favorite professors at the UM law school. Both Shaun and I will hold him forever in our hearts. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

My sympathy and prayers to his family and friends. Nicholas White was one of my favorite professors. He taught my only 8am law school class, Property. He wrote me a recommendation and noted my punctuality for those two semesters. (Motherhood killed it.) I was able to learn from him in a couple of other classes too. His stories were gold. He said, “In this situation….” about a million times each class. He would be proud to know I have followed his advice never to be on my HOA Board—I think his reason was the board would expect a lot of free labor after finding out you’re an attorney. Nicholas White was a kind man and a wonderful teacher. He could be stern when necessary, and he could laugh at himself. I was honored to be his student. I did not know much about his military service. Reading about it deepened my respect for him.

I plan to attend the visitation in person, but I wanted to write as soon as I heard the news. Nick was a kindly, sweet man, someone who was very good to me when I first joined the faculty. A senior faculty member showing the junior faculty member the ropes. He was already at that time of advanced age, and he was amazingly cheerful, peppy, and full of vigor, especially for someone his age. He was very generous and hospitable to me and my family. I heard many good things about his time before my joining the faculty. He will be greatly missed.
