Dr. Neil B. Edwards' Obituary
Dr. Neil B. Edwards (82), husband of Lynn Harper, died recently at their home in Germantown, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Winfield B. and Jane Spangenberg Edwards, Lake Ariel, PA.
Dr. Edwards attended the Salem Elementary School in Hamlin and graduated from Lake Consolidated High School in 1957. In 1961 he graduated from Penn State University ( pre-med ) and in 1965 from Temple University, where he earned his Doctorate in Medicine.
Dr. Edwards served as Head of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania and later was Chairman of the Psychiatric Department at The University of Tennessee. He also practiced general psychiatry in Belfast, Maine. In 2013 his book " Realize Your Life " was published.
Dr. Edwards served his country with distinction in Vietnam as an Army Captain ( Mash Unit ) and was awarded the Bronze Star for outstanding, valorous service. Besides his great love of baseball, having played on on several teams in Northeast Pennsylvania, Dr. Edwards was an enthusiastic hunter and fly fisherman, often roaming the hills and wading the trout streams of Pennsylvania and Maine. He had a great love for Mozart.
In addition to his parents. he was preceded in death by his sister Shirley and brother Wayne. Surviving are a sister Dianne Malinoski, two brothers ( Darrell and David ), plus several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife of 54 years, Lynn Harper, Dr. Edwards is survived by 4 children ( Allison, Jillian, Justin, Aaron) and 10 grandchildren - Evan, Jacob, Alec, Anna, Sophia, Zachary, Kaitlyn, Lily, Stella, and Miles .
Dr. Edwards is deeply mourned for and will be profoundly missed by his family and many friends.
