Naomi Bryant Lancaster's Obituary
Naomi Bryant Lancaster of Germantown, Tennessee, 86, passed away on October 3, 2016, following a long struggle with cancer and the effects of its’s treatment. She was born on February 23, 1930 in Wiener, Arkansas. Her childhood was during the Great Depression era and she was truly the poster child for the “greatest generation.” She worked as a nurse for over 50 years, rarely taking a sick day or vacation. She was a strong, pragmatic, independent woman. After her husband, William Darryl Lancaster died when she was only 29, she managed to be both mom and dad to her three children. And then both Nana and grandpa to her 5 grandchildren. During the ten years she was married, Naomi lived in Flint, Michigan and was a classic 50’s era style housewife and mother. After becoming a widow, she moved her three children back to the South and spent the next ten years in Jonesboro, Arkansas. She became a Memphis resident in 1975, where she continued her nursing career. Her patients loved her and she loved them. However, her greatest passion was always to take care of and provide for her family and friends. She was the rock with a heart of gold that everyone could depend on. Naomi was never one to care for frills or unnecessary extravagances, but she was the first to offer assistance to anyone truly in need of something. Material possessions were of little significance to her. She was a minimalist, long before it was trendy. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee Roy and Estelle Bryant, her husband, William Darrell Lancaster, her daughter, Sandra J. Lancaster, and her grandsons, Lennon Lancaster and Gabriel Nahmias. Naomi is survived by her son, Dr. Wayne Lancaster (Lori), her daughter, Wendy Lancaster Nahmias, her three grandchildren, Dr. Zach Nahmias, and Lauren & Lincoln Lancaster, her two brothers Lee Roy (Sonny) Bryant and Gerald Bryant, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be Saturday, October 8th, 2016 at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am, followed by a graveside funeral service at 11:00. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Association or a charity of personal choice.“Celebrating Life….Behind the Stone Wall”
