Nancy Mitchell's Obituary
Nancy Mitchell (nee Walker) was born December 27,1939 in Pontiac Michigan to Wendell and Nellie Walker. Growing up, she was a dutiful daughter helping out at home because both her parents worked.
She is survived by her brother, Hugh Walker. Nancy graduated from St Michaels High School in Pontiac, MI in 1957. She was always known to be a sweet and innocent woman. Her only two missteps were the time she got caught in the trunk of a car sneaking into a drive in movie and the time smoking cigarettes behind the garage with a friend. She later attended the Pontiac Business Institute and became a legal secretary for four years. As fate would have it her brother was later stationed in England and met June Mitchell. When Nancy and her parents arrived in England for the wedding she met Jim Mitchell. She was quickly enamored by this dashing young Englishman on his motorcycle. Nancy married Jim in 1962. Soon after they had three sons; Brian (Elaine), Andrew (Shannon) and Patrick (MaryAnn). Nancy has five grandchildren (Jon, Zac, Alex, Nathan, and Maddy). Mom was a devoted homemaker, taking care of her three helpless boys and one helpless man. She made every house they lived in a home. Her homemade birthday cakes and homemade pocket T-shirt were family legend. After their retirement in 1992, they spent 30 years traveling to all fifty states and abroad to many countries. Nancy also loved to entertain people at their beautiful home in Germantown TN. When they were not traveling, Mom was an avid reader, soap opera and Wheel of Fortune watcher and lover of jelly beans. She enjoyed volunteering and was active with Our Lady of Perpetual Help. She will be dearly missed. Visitation will be on Wednesday May 18th at 9:00 am with services immediately following at 10:00 at Memorial Park Funeral Home 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis, TN 38117.
