Nancy Carter Bryan's Obituary
Nancy Carter Bryan was called home by her Lord Monday, November 11, 2013. A memorial service will be held at First Evangelical Church Saturday, November 16th at 2:00 pm. The family will receive visitors prior to the service at 1:30 pm. A graveside service will follow at Memphis Memorial Park Cemetery at 3:15 pm. Born on March 28, 1930 in Memphis the daughter of Eric Carter and Bessie Mae Gray, Nancy was preceded in death by Tom Bryan, Sr., her husband of 61 years, brothers Eric and Carey Carter and sisters, Elnora Wilder, Era Soefker and Bea Ottenville. Nancy leaves son Tom Bryan, Jr. (Stephanie); daughters Nancy B. Born (Steve) and Susie B. Hall (Stanley) and eight grandchildren, John Bryan (Tina), Andrew Bryan, Kirk Hall (Shannon), Betsy Bryan Anderson (Michael), Molly Bryan, Russell Born, Sander Bryan and Chandler Bryan. Nancy was a life long Memphian graduating from Central High School in 1948. She worked for RKO Radio before marrying Tom, becoming a homemaker and starting their family. She was active in the community and served in organizations such as Junior League of Memphis, The Women’s Exchange, Whileaway Garden Club and various PTA positions. An active member of First Evan for 60 years Nancy was involved in Lady’s Circle, VBS, Grandmother’s In Touch and her beloved Sunday School Class. Her interests included gardening, interior decorating, bridge club, and playing tennis. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who experienced tremendous joy in serving her family. She gained her strength from Church, dear friends, family and Jesus. This role was magnified as she was an exceptional caregiver to her husband during the last years of his life. Then in God’s perfect timing He allowed Nancy to spend special one on one time with each of her children and grandchildren before calling her home. These precious memories will be cherished by her family forever.
