Nancy Jo Bell Hamilton's Obituary
Mrs. Nancy Jo Bell Hamilton, age 82, of Hanover, Indiana formerly of Memphis, Tennessee entered this life on February 1, 1937 in Lansing, Michigan. She was the loving daughter of Joseph O. and Roanne Carter Bell. Nancy graduated from Central High School in Memphis, Tennessee where she sang in the choir for three years and served as a ROTC sponsor for her high school sweetheart, Joe. She also won first place in the Mid-South Fair Talent Show. She attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma on a voice scholarship in the School of Fine Arts. She also sang in the Bison Glee Club as a “Little Sister” group. She was a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota (SAI) musical sorority and sang in numerous school operas. Nancy was united in marriage to her sweetheart, Joseph Albert Hamilton, Jr. on December 30, 1956 by Dr. Robert G. Lee at the Bellevue Baptist Church where she had also been baptized. This happy union was blessed with a daughter, Lisa Lynn and a son, Steven Glenn. Nancy’s most enjoyable times were spent with family and friends and her church work. She was blessed to have served as Administrative Assistant in the Church Administration Department, Biblical Guidance, and Music Ministry at Bellevue Baptist Church for 46 years. She sang in choirs from beginners to senior adults and was a soloist in the Sanctuary Choir for 30 years. She and Joe were leaders in BTU for young people. They also served in the Home Bound Ministry and she was Choir Coordinator for church music ministry for 10 years. She was awarded the Church Professional Secretary Certificate from the Southern Baptist Convention. They moved to Hanover, Indiana in 2014, making new friends and enjoying being a part of Hanover Baptist Church. Nancy’s favorite Bible verses were Proverbs 3:5-6, Isaiah 53:6, and Romans 8:28.Nancy will be missed by many with her family leading the list. Her husband of nearly 63 years, Joseph Albert Hamilton, Jr. of Hanover, Indiana; her daughter, Lisa Lynn Crawford and her husband Harry of Hanover, Indiana; her son, Steven Glenn Hamilton and his wife Shelly of Lancaster, Indiana; her grandchildren, Jay Crawford and his wife Kim of Hanover, Indiana, Melynda Shaffer and her husband, Chenowith of Madison, Indiana, Joe Crawford and his wife Angela of Madison, Indiana, Georgia Windsor and her husband, Daniel of Winston-Salem North Carolina, and Drew Hamilton of South Haven Mississippi; her great grandchildren, Belle Crawford, Amelia Windsor, Raygan Crawford, Madison Windsor, Riley Crawford, Claire Shaffer, Natalee Crawford, Haylee Crawford, Keeton Shaffer, Lincoln Windsor, and Carson Shaffer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph O. and Roanne Carter Bell.Friends may visit Tuesday, October 22, from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana and Thursday, October 24 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service at the Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee.Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 24, 2019, at 1:00 p.m., by Dr. Joe Jernigan at the Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery,5668 Poplar Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee.Memorial contributions may be made to the Hanover Baptist Church Building Fund.
