Myrtle Todd Roehrig's Obituary
Myrtle Todd Roehrig, 94, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2022, while being surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Yuma, TN to Minnie and Monroe Waugh on July 5, 1927, Myrtle was the second youngest of 8 children. She graduated from Yuma High School where she absolutely loved playing basketball. Much of her youth was spent laughing and hanging out with her many siblings, cousins, and a very special uncle named Amos.
When Myrtle was young, she worked at Milan Arsenal. She also worked at Bank of America and was a sales associate at Casual Corner, Kay Jewelers and Marx and Morgan. She was a member of Bartlett Baptist Church for many years and enjoyed being in the Joy-Seekers Sunday School Class.
Our mother enjoyed baking and will always be remembered for her famous lemon pound cakes and pecan pies. The grandchildren could always count on one coming straight from the oven if she knew they would be visiting. Anytime someone was in need, they would be the lucky recipient of one as well. She was also an excellent seamstress and made many of her girls’ clothes when they were young. She was such a fashionable lady and truly loved anything beautiful, whether it was a bright green silk blouse, gorgeous linen draperies, or as she once said “I love beautiful people” which we joked with her about on several occasions.
Our mother made many life-long friends over the years as she had such a warm and vivacious personality, quick wit and was truly beautiful inside and out. She cherished her time with each family member, as she would say, “it’s all about that one on one time”. Each of her three children felt they were her favorite as she would often say “you gotta love the one you are with”. When you were with mother, she had a gift that made you feel like you were the most special person in the world….always a true cheerleader for her children and grandchildren.
Always carrying herself with such elegance and grace, Myrtle lit up the room with her beautiful smile and warm spirit, her many hilarious sayings (Myrtleisms) and passion for life. As one friend said, “she is like a ray of sunshine, spreading love and humor everywhere she goes”.
Her grandchildren absolutely adored her and described her as loving, kind, energetic, spunky, caring, hilarious, pretty, classy, understanding, very giving, cheerful, bougie, sassy, the cool grandma, fun loving, a delight to spend time with, life of the party, flirty, was always on your side no matter what, and basically everything you could possibly want in a grandma.
Whether friend or family, she gave love in abundance. She will be so very missed as she was truly one of a kind.
Myrtle was predeceased by her parents, Minnie King and Monroe Waugh; her children’s father, James E. Todd; John R. Roehrig, her husband of 24 years; her sisters, Arnelle (Dee) Weatherford, Odelle (Elmer) Hawkins, Raymelle Noles (Art) Hagg, Marie (Ed) Todd; her brothers Leonard (Clara) Waugh, Pvt. She is survived by her children; Rodney (Pat) Todd of Cedar Grove, TN, Donna (Larry) Linton of Piperton, TN, and Linda (Mike) Brawner of Chapin, SC. Her grandchildren; Lee Todd of Jackson, Tn, Jessica (Chaz) Daughtery of Jackson, TN, Todd (Denise) Pentecost of Dayton, OH, Lauren Lorenz of San Francisco, CA, Michael Brawner & fiancée, Clary Haltiwanger of Atlanta, GA, Drew Brawner of Columbia, SC, Kristin (Kevin) Franklin of Atoka, TN, Lauren (Nathan) Cupples of Marion, AR, Landon (Lauren) Linton of Knoxville, TN. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to special friends, Janet and Scott Pace and family and also Brian and Amy Rice and family for their love, kindness and support they showed mother over the last several years. You all had such a special place in her heart.
We would also like to thank the entire staff at Heritage at Irene Woods for the wonderful care mom received there during the last 5 years. She absolutely loved living in her apartment there and always looked forward to her “girl talk” each night with Katrina Allen. Katrina we will be forever grateful to you for your special friendship with mom and all the love and kindness that you showed her over the years.
Many thanks also to Hope Hospice for their care, love, and concern for mother during the last few weeks. You truly were a blessing to our family during this time.
