She graduated from Rose Hill High School in Rose Hill, MS. She married the late Johnny Read and they lived together in Bay Springs, MS, prior to his death in 1942. In March of 1947, she married the late Norvelle Williams. They resided in Bay Springs, MS prior to relocating to Memphis, TN in 1951.
