Monique R. Stepherson's Obituary
Monique R. Stepherson, 55, resident of too many places to mention, but called Memphis home for 28 years, passed away on November 18, 2024.
Monique is survived by her parents, Paul and Stephanie Russell; loving husband, Jack Stepherson; brother, Gregg Russell; and children, Vicki Stepherson and Chris Stepherson.
Monique was a talented horseback rider, snow skier, and loved anything to do with the outdoors. She also made sure to see the world by traveling through Europe and parts of South America and made sure to pass on her love of travel to her children. She graduated from Lynchburg College with a double major in Political Science and History, class of 1991.
She moved to Memphis in 1996 with her daughter, Vicki. She shortly after met her husband, Jack, in 1997 and their marriage adventure started in 1998. Her son, Chris, was born in 2000 making her family complete.
She lived her life passionately in making sure her family and anyone around her was loved, supported, and well fed. She was known for her infectious laugh, smile, and huge heart helping anyone around her without ever asking for anything in return.
She always was the first to volunteer for anything to help at the schools, including leading Destination Imagination groups, running concession stands for schools and swim teams, a leading force in recreating the lacrosse program at St. Benedict at Auburndale, and being the loudest/most supportive fan for any soccer, basketball, lacrosse, and track team. You could hear Monique’s voice yelling from a mile away at her children to either “Breathe!” or negotiating desserts as rewards for better performance. She will be long remembered at both her children’s elementary and high schools, Woodland Presbyterian and St. Benedict.
She carried on a tradition of the Stepherson’s by baking thousands of holiday cookies each year for her friends, families, and store employees even as the company grew. She was also famous for her dinner parties, sending people home with full stomachs, happy hearts, and a container of leftovers.
She’ll be truly missed by all of those who have been lucky enough to be touched by the light of her life.
Funeral services for Monique will be at 11:30AM on Saturday, November 30, 2024 at Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit.
