Mildred Stevens' Obituary
Mildred was taken to her heavenly home by God’s angels on Thursday, October 10th, 2013. She was 92 years of age and passed away peacefully in her sleep. She was a descendant of early pioneers who settled Memphis and her parents, Samuel Puryear and Lutie Mae (Ellis) Gibbons were dairy farmers. Mildred was a devout Christian and a life-long Methodist. She attended Bartlett United Methodist Church for many years until she relocated to Sarasota, Florida in 2002. She was one of the first teachers at Evangelical Christian School where she lovingly guided and taught first grade students for more than 20 years. She leaves behind Benjamin Milton Stevens, her husband of 67 years, along with her three children, Ken G. Stevens of New Braunfels, Texas, Marion M. Stevens of Memphis and LuAnne S. Kirschner of Sarasota, Florida. Grandchildren include Brian Stevens, Robert Stevens, Claire Bowman, and Ellen Coleman as well as great grandchildren; Emery Stevens, Benjamin Bowman and Samuel Bowman. There will be a graveside service at Memphis Memorial Park at 11:00AM, Saturday October 19th. Family and friends will gather at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 10:30 AM and proceed to the grave site led by Reverend Mark Matheny. The family asks that memorials to honor Mildred be sent to Sunnyside Village Chapel at 5201 Bahia Vista Street, Sarasota, Florida, 34232.
