Mildred Millwood's Obituary
Mildred Millwood, 90, of Olive Branch, MS, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, November 27, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, William (Bill) Millwood, parents Willie and James T. Hammett, brothers Vance, Ray, Horace and Ivan Hammett, sisters Eron Copeland (Sim, deceased) and Lila King (Albert, deceased). Mildred is survived by her daughter, Lynn (Linda) Millwood of Olive Branch, MS, sisters Frances Smith (Milo) and Pat Hammett.Mildred was born in Etowah County, AL and attended school in Altoona, AL. As a young woman, she worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co.in Gadsden, AL, during the WWII period. She met and married Bill Millwood, a handsome Army officer. She and Bill spent most of their lives in the Memphis area.Mildred had a strong faith, which she carried with her throughout her life as a wife and mother. For many years she was a member of Park Avenue Cumberland Presbyterian Church and served as a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and president of CPW. Later she became a member of Central Church. She was known for her sense of humor, youthful smile, strong will, and compassion. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, December 2, at Memorial Park Funeral Home, 5668 Poplar Ave., Memphis, TN, and services will be on Tuesday, December 3, at 2:30 p.m. at Memorial Park.
