Mildred Batton Kennon's Obituary
Mildred Batton Kennon, “Mimi”, age 99, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2020 at Kirby Pines Retirement Community where she had resided since 2011. The daughter of Sarah May and Jesse Arthur Batton, she was born and grew up in Lobelville, TN. She graduated from Middle Tennessee State University in 1942, married in 1943, and received a Master’s degree from Memphis State University later in life.
She will be remembered for her dedication and loyalty to her husband and family, family traditions, especially at Christmas, her commitment to doing the right thing, for her kindness, her optimism, and laughter. Her friends and children and grandchildren will cherish their memories of long visits around the kitchen table and fun times spent at the Pickwick Lake house, which they named The Happy House. She taught by example and her “Mimi- isms” will live on with her grandchildren. She was a faithful Christian and loved her church family at Highland St. Church of Christ.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Kennon and her only sibling, Agnes Warren. Survivors are her son, Carl Batton Kennon, Sr.(Jill), daughter, Carol K. Wood (David), daughter, Mildred K Rogers (Bill), her seven grandchildren, Batton Kennon, Leslie Herrle, Daniel Askew, Kennon Askew, Joshua Rogers, Spencer Rogers and Katie Rogers and 9 great-grandchildren, Emmy Herrle, Nick Herrle, Lily Kennon, Rowan Askew, Batton Askew, Cline Askew, Charlie Askew, Peyton Askew and Ellie Rogers.
Memorial gifts can be made to a charity of choice.
The family is concerned for the health and well-being of others, she will be in interred at Memorial Park Cemetery w/ a private ceremony.
