Mildred R. Crookshanks' Obituary
Mildred R. “Day” Crookshanks, 96, passed away on March 25, 2019. She was born in Munford, TN on November 7, 1922. “Day” is survived by her sister, Mary Lee McPeake Mayer, son, John R. Crookshanks (Tina), daughter, Suzanne L. Crookshanks, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She attended Baptist School of Nursing and received R.N. diploma just prior to marrying Ray R. Crookshanks of Exeter, CA, in 1946. Mildred moved to California and worked as a nurse while her husband attended veterinary school. They remained in California until 1956, when they moved back to Memphis, TN. “Day” was a Mother and Homemaker until her husband died in 1983. After her husband passed, she worked as a RN at Rosewood Nursing Home and at Upjohn and Trinity Healthcare Services as a home health nurse. Mildred also volunteered at the Memphis Zoo as a Docent. She retired from nursing career at the age of 78. She enjoyed her family, watching her grandchildren grow up, traveling to Jamaica and other destinations across the USA, and was able to see two great grandchildren come into the world.
