Mildred Carter's Obituary
Mildred Vaughn Carter, 85, of Memphis, died August 17, 2009.Mrs. Carter was born November 19, 1923 in Water Valley, MS daughter of Elmer and Zulene Vaughn. Mildred graduated from Water Valley High school and led the girls team to the 1941 North Central Mississippi Basketball Championship. She moved to Memphis where she worked for Southern Bell as an operator. She met her husband Bob and married him on September 16, 1946. She was a loving wife, mother, and an active member of Cherokee Baptist Church of 53 years.She leaves her husband of 63 years Robert “Bob” Carter, her daughter; Beverly Taylor (Joe) and their children Jason Taylor (Jennifer) & Carrie Guthrie (Marty); her daughter Patty Brister (Eddie) and their children Bryan Brister (Krissa), & Sarah Brister; her son Bobby Carter (Karen) and their children Robert & Elizabeth; and five great grandchildren; Spencer & Henri Taylor, Quinn Mosley, Brianna and Mathew Brister. She also leaves three sisters Jane Mixon of Southaven, MS, Joanne Carlisle of Water Valley, MS, and Pat Mixon of Oxford. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister Jean Mixon and brothers Lawrence & George Vaughn of Water Valley, MS.The family will be receiving friends from 5-7 pm at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 19, 2009. Funeral services will be held on 2:30 p.m. Thursday, August 20, at Memorial Park Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Kirby Woods Baptist Church, Gideon’s International or Alzheimer’s Association.
