Michael "Mike" J. Leggett's Obituary
Michael James Leggett, 77, of Rosemark, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on April 3, 2026
Born on April 21,1948 in Memphis, Tennessee, Mike was the son of Shelton and Ladora Leggett. He grew up in Memphis, where he graduated from Bartlett High School. He then received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and went on to earn his Master’s degree from Memphis State University. His education set him up for a successful career in accounting and farm management for the next 45 years. He loved his work, and he was dedicated to the many clients he served over the years.
In 1968, Mike married Linda Wallace, his high school sweetheart, who preceded him in death in 1991. For 22 years, they were happily married and built a beautiful life together, rooted in love and faith, as they raised their three daughters.
In 1992, he married Mary Ann Martin, with whom he shared 33 wonderful years of marriage. Their life together was marked by love, dedication, companionship, and family.
Mike was a devoted husband as well as a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ann Leggett; his children, Melissa Steinbach (Steve), Jenny Creasy (Dale), and Shannon Peterson (Heath); his stepchildren, Carol Benjamin (Scott) and Jim McGarity (Kathy); and their 14 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Richard Leggett.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Shelton and Ladora Leggett and his first wife, Linda Leggett.
Mike was known for his love for the Tennessee Vols, for his family, and for country life, especially his Angus cattle. In addition to his friendly nature and his kindness, he will also be remembered for his strong work ethic which was evident in every aspect of his life. He also leaves behind a legacy of generosity. His love language was gift-giving, and it always brought him such joy to see his loved ones light up when opening gifts at Christmastime. Mike was a well-respected, wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and will be sorely missed.
There will be a visitation from 12:00pm-2:00pm with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 2:00 on Tuesday, April 7 at Memorial Park Funeral Home at 5668 Poplar Ave Memphis, TN 38119. Burial will be held privately.
