Michael Dawson McCown's Obituary
Michael Dawson McCown, Sr., 55 of Memphis, Tennessee, born on May 5, 1970, died peacefully on January 12, 2026, at his home. He was the beloved son of Oswald Stuart McCown III and Harriet Agatha McCown, and he also lovingly acknowledged his birth mother, Barbara Maes Barron.
He is survived by his three children, Michael Dawson McCown, Jr., Nicholas Hawks McCown, and Mary Alexandra McCown; his siblings, Mary Catherine Herman and Oswald Stuart McCown IV (Gina); his grandson, Baylor McCown; many nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Dawson, as he was known, attended Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, graduating in 1989. He developed a passion for the landscaping business, spending many years working with Pugh’s Landscaping. His entrepreneurial spirit was strong, inspiring him to own and operate his own successful landscaping company.
He would undoubtedly maintain, his greatest accomplishment, was being the proud father of his three beloved children. He cherished them with all his heart and treasured time spent with them, creating memories that will last forever.
Dawson had a passion for Notre Dame football (go Irish!), crawfish season (hosting parties with his friends for over 30 years), the city of New Orleans, his beloved Corvette, and his faithful companion, Rex.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Please keep his family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
A visitation will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 16th, at Memorial Park Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dawson’s honor to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
